“But ask the animals, and they will teach you,
or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you…”

Job 12:7 NIV

Taught By Animals

The Atlantic walrus is known for its commanding presence, impressive whiskers and long ivory tusks, which are used to break sea ice and climb out of the water. Tusks are found on both males and females and can grow up to three feet long. In Canada, you can find small populations of Atlantic walrus distributed in the High Arctic and Central-Low Arctic. They are sensitive to climate change-related shifts in their sea-ice habitat, causing some to haul out on land in large numbers.

When I watch a person training a new puppy, I often wonder who is actually getting trained. It seems to me the trainer is the one getting used to the temperament of the little pup. The Bible speaks about what we can learn from the members of the animal kingdom. In a world where far too many people doubt the existence of God, in spite of His fingerprints being all over His creation, Job tells us to ask the animals, who will tell us about the One who made them. In Job 12:7, we read, “‘But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you.’” Just spend a day birdwatching, and you will be amazed at the creative genius of God, who paints them shades of all colours. They display God’s handiwork. Ask the animals, with their variety and unique abilities – they speak of their Creator who brought them into this world with a purpose. If the birds and animals know, how much more should we, created in His image, into whom He has breathed His spirit. Learn from the animals that our God is real.

These have been words from the heart.
