We partner with Christian ministry organizations to reach people in over 40 countries worldwide. This work falls into four categories of programs: Children’s Ministry, Starting New Churches, Adult Bible-Based Literacy, and work within the Persecuted Church.

We equip local champions to bring God’s Word to people living in spiritual and physical poverty. The power of the Holy Spirit is working to transform communities, and even entire nations, from the inside out.

Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Senior Vice-President (VP), this position will assist in three broad areas: Strategic Planning, Partnership Development and International Missions Operations. The incumbent should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and effectively and diplomatically interacting with members of Bible League Canada (BLC) Global Leadership Team, other ministry partners, BLC internal teams and donors. Specific responsibilities within the above areas are:

Strategic Planning:
Participation in the development of strategic plans for all ministry activity, including:

  • Engaging with the Global Leadership Team, which consists of regional joint ministry partner leaders, and ensuring that all regional/country plans and budgets are understood and up to date.
  • Researching, documenting and providing updates on geo-political conditions in the countries where BLC operates, as well as the content of strategic ministry programs used by our ministry partners.
  • Leading the annual strategic planning and budgeting processes for both the Global Leadership Team and the BLC International Ministry Team, contributing to the drafting and implementation of the annual operating plan.

Partnership Development:

  • In conjunction with the Senior VP, developing new partnerships that will work towards doubling ministry impact.
  • In tandem with the Senior VP, interviewing external ministry leaders in preparation for the non-BLC Congress.

International Missions Operations:
Overseeing and directing International Missions Operations, supported by the Manager of International Ministry.

  • Supporting the Senior VP in directing relationships with the Global Leadership Team, administration of the annual operations budget, regularly traveling globally for field operations visits, compiling and editing field reports and reviews and directing onsite staff.
  • Working with the International Ministry team to develop and improve ministry management systems, structures, processes and culture which support the successful execution of strategic plans and achieve all related goals and deliverables.
  • Supporting the Marketing and Development Team with information such as program content and reports for fundraising purposes and annual appeals.
  • Organizing and attending meetings of the Global Leadership Team.

Education:

  • Minimum requirement of a Bachelor’s Degree, with studies in global affairs, missions and international relationships preferred.

Experience:

  • Global experience either in missions or global ministry would be an asset.
  • Experience in a not-for-profit organization preferred but not essential.
  • Experience in church planting preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Intermediate/Advanced organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to see the “big picture”.

Interpersonal Skills and Personal Attributes:

  • Knowledge of and passion for Bible League Canada and its work.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Finance & Administration, the Manager of Finance contributes to the team responsible for the management of all the financial operations and human capital of Bible League Canada, as well as the physical office. This role provides support to and participation in strategic ministry & financial planning, budget management, government & affiliation compliance, and ensures the organization’s timely and accurate financial transactions and reporting.

Specific responsibilities within the above areas include:

Annual filings

  • In collaboration with team, prepares the T3010 submission, T1223s, CCCC and other association reporting and compliance forms

Budget Management
General administrative support to Chief of Staff, including but not limited to:

  • Assists the Director of Finance & Administration in planning and conducting the budget process, circulates budget templates, collects submissions and enters the final budget into QuickBooks Online
  • Consolidates, identifies gaps, and analyzes budget submissions
  • Calculates sensitive ratios (Fundraising & Admin, Missions)
  • Monitors ongoing performance vs. budget, determines impact on forecast
  • With input from members of Finance & Administration team members, assembles annual team budget for Finance & Administration

Cash Forecasting & Management

  • Facilitates the collection of revenue and expenditure forecasts and maintains cash flow forecasts
  • Receives and enters forecasts into accounting and forecasting system
  • Reviews forecast for completeness
  • Identifies and researches inconsistency with historical or anticipated patterns

Banking, Commodity Tax, Foreign Exchange

  • Monitors bank balances and identifies banking service needs and new offerings
  • Monitor, advise on, and prepare federal and provincial commodity tax obligations and considerations across the country
  • Reviews the completeness of documentation supporting wire, approves and releases wires in the online banking system, monitors and manages F/X risk exposure and supports short- and medium-term F/X requirements

Financial Reporting

  • Books necessary entries for all transactions not processed through Accounts Payable
  • Analyzes account balances
  • Liaises with staff to secure all fiscal & calendar year end submissions
  • Reviews completeness of monthly financial results – identifies any required adjustments
  • Investigates anomalies, provides commentary regarding fluctuations

Payroll Processing

  • Works with HR and outsourced payroll provider and payroll consultant to ensure semi-monthly payroll, ROEs and T4s in compliance with payroll administration, CRA and provincial government requirements
  • Reconciles payments to provincial and federal authorities with government statements
  • Process, reviews and approves:
    • Group RRSP remittances
    • WSIB, EHT, BC Work Safe remittances

Transactional Processing

  • Donations Processing
    • Provides direction on receipting practices, particularly in gifts of securities
    • Works with the Development group and Donors to complete gifts of securities
    • Works with Marketing & Development teams to ensure designated gifts and restrictions can be tracked and honoured
    • Reviews and provides independent sign off of donation count logs and insures effective controls
  • Legacy Giving
    • Provides support to Development team Area Directors for situational queries
    • Liaises as necessary with Development team and Advisors with Purpose
  • Vendor Invoices and Payments
    • Reviews and approves disbursements, signs cheques, approves and releases wires
    • Approves the establishment or changes to banking information for outbound wire recipients

Supervision of Accounting Associate

  • Conducts weekly 1:1 scheduled meetings and informal discussions with Accounting Associate to ensure they are moving in the direction of both the team and its members’ goals
  • Provides direction, oversight and follow up on delegated tasks
  • Administer progress review meetings and submissions

Miscellaneous Support

  • Audit Committee
    • Recommends agenda items for regular Audit Committee meetings
  • Supplier Contracts
    • Recommends and establishes policies governing contract requirements to support ministry requirements and risk mitigation
    • Drafts and/or reviews contract and monitors compliance
  • Risk Management
    • Supports the Director of Finance & Administration in the maintenance of the risk register
    • Manages the follow up and remediation of items identified in annual risk register review

Education and professional accreditation:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; post-graduate studies in a related field is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of related experience, preferably in non-profit accounting
  • Experience and proven abilities in managing people and projects

Technical Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Analytical with a logical approach to problem-solving
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite, conferencing tools (Zoom, Teams, Webex)

Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Vice-President, Ministry Advancement, the Ministry Advancement Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative support to the VP, Ministry Advancement for budgeting purposes, strategic initiatives and deliverables, communication and scheduling. In addition, this role provides oversight to our process for applying for grants from foundations. The incumbent should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, dealing with a wide variety of work and interacting with others effectively and diplomatically.

Specific responsibilities within the above areas include:

Administrative Support:

  • Supporting in the research, planning and development of content for specific deliverables.
  • Coordinate schedules, meetings, agendas, minutes for engagement with functional teams (Marketing, Development, Research & Analytics teams) as well as executive/leadership teams as needed.
  • Respond and communicate as appropriate with internal and external stakeholders on behalf of VP, Ministry Advancement.
  • Provide support to the Managers Team for their regular meetings, activities and reports, and debriefing the VP, Ministry Advancement.

Budget Management:

  • Assist in the development and documenting of annual forecasts and budgets for each fiscal year.
  • On a monthly basis, track budgets (revenue & expense forecasts) for Ministry Advancement, Marketing & Development Teams.
  • Liaise with Finance team as necessary for submitting changes, making requests, and clarifying details.
  • Process team invoices and expenses for approval in a timely manner.

Foundations:

  • Research and recommend potential foundation grant opportunities.
  • Drive, and provide oversight to, the application and reporting process for each new and existing foundation relationship in collaboration with other internal teams and stakeholders.

Education:

  • Education must include a College or University Diploma.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years’ experience assisting an executive role is preferred, or relevant experience.
  • Experience with budget management.
  • Experience and proven abilities in managing external partner relationships.
  • Experience in a non-profit organization would be an asset but not essential.

Technical Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to see the “big picture”.
  • Sound project management, organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
