Career Opportunities

We partner with Christian ministry organizations to reach people in over 50 countries worldwide. This work falls into four categories of programs: Children’s Ministry, Starting New Churches, Adult Bible-Based Literacy, and work within the Persecuted Church.

We equip local champions to bring God’s Word to people living in spiritual and physical poverty. The power of the Holy Spirit is working to transform communities, and even entire nations, from the inside out.

Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Senior Vice President (SVP), the Director of International Ministry will assist the SVP in two broad areas: (A) Strategic Planning and (B) International Missions Operations. The incumbent should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and effectively and diplomatically interacting with members of the Global Leadership Team, other ministry partners, other Bible League Canada teams and donors. The successful candidate will be a member of our National Leadership Team. Specific responsibilities within the above areas are:

(A) Strategic Planning:
This involves participation in the development of strategic plans for all ministry activity, including:

  • Engaging with the Global Leadership Team, which consists of continental joint ministry partner leaders, and ensuring that all regional/country plans and budgets are understood and up to date.
  • Researching, documenting and providing updates on geo-political conditions in the countries where BLC operates, as well as the content of strategic ministry programs used by our ministry partners.
  • Leading the annual strategic planning and budgeting processes for both the Global Leadership Team and the BLC International Ministry Team, contributing to the drafting, publication, and implementation of the annual operating plan.

(B) International Missions Operations:
This involves overseeing and directing International Missions Operations, including:

  • Supporting the SVP in directing relationships with the Global Leadership Team, administration of the annual operations budget, regularly traveling globally for field operations visits, compiling and editing field reports and reviews and directing onsite staff.
  • Supervising the Project Lead to ensure that all Genesis Projects are successfully completed according to mutually agreed upon benchmark, metrics and outcomes.
  • Working with the International Ministry Coordinator, develop and improve ministry management systems, structures, processes and culture which support the successful execution of strategic plans and their related goals and deliverables.
  • Supporting the Marketing and Development Team with information such as program content and reports for fundraising purposes and annual appeals, and collaborating with Marketing to ensure alignment on appeal goals.
  • Organizing, facilitating and attending meetings of the Global Leadership Team.
  • Regularly attending meetings of the BLC National Leadership Team.

  • Proven pastoral heart preferred.

Education:

  • Minimum requirement of a Bachelor’s Degree with studies in pastoral ministry, global affairs, missions or international relationships preferred.

Experience:

  • Experience in pastoral ministry is preferred.
  • Experience in church planting is preferred.
  • Global experience either in missions or global ministry would be an asset.
  • Experience in a not-for-profit organization preferred but not essential.

Technical Skills:

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, Power Point, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Intermediate/Advanced organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to see the “big picture.”

Required Commitment:

  • Follower of Jesus Christ who wholeheartedly subscribes to the faith and lifestyle policy documents of Bible League Canada.
  • Available for significant travel commitments internationally.
  • The incumbent will be required to pray and minister to people who contact Bible League Canada either in person, or by phone, or other electronic communication. These ministry and prayer opportunities include but are not limited to reception/phone duties, general inquiries, churches, conferences and events and all fundraising activities, in multiple countries and cultures.

Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Development, the Joint Ministry Representative is responsible for caring for and cultivating the relationship between Bible League Canada and its joint ministry partner BFM Foundation Canada at the store level for Mission Thrift Stores. Through sharing ministry impact and engaging in store communities, the Joint Ministry Representative is a key connection point between Bible League Canada and BFM Foundation Canada and the Mission Thrift Stores across Canada. The incumbent should be comfortable with regular travel, involvement in volunteer work, and must have the ability to build strong relationships with a wide variety of personalities and perspectives.

Specific Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

Connecting with Mission Thrift Stores

  • Visit and correspond with stores, in-person across Canada and virtually, to build relationships.
  • Inspire store communities with the mission and impact of the joint ministry.
  • Thank, and provide reports and communication to store staff and volunteers.
  • Engage with Regional Directors from BFM Foundation (Canada)
  • Liaise with Mission Thrift Stores on behalf of Bible League Canada.
  • Respond to inquiries and needs at the store level.
  • Assist stores, in alignment with broader marketing initiatives, with various promotional collateral and opportunities for storytelling.
  • Engage in various store events and presentations as identified.

Represent Mission Thrift Stores within BLC

  • Represent Mission Thrift Stores to Bible League Canada through regular updates and presentations to Bible League Canada staff.
  • Share store and volunteer stories with the Bible League Canada staff.
  • Connect regularly with BLC Marketing Team to align on various event and store activities.

Engage as a member of Bible League Canada’s Development Team

  • Meet and train with the Development team as appropriate.
  • Maintain store information and records through Salesforce.
  • Engage as a full-time Bible League Canada staff member by attending chapels, huddles, all-staff meetings, retreats, and strategic planning.

Education and professional accreditation:

  • Education should include a University Degree.

Experience:

  • 8-10 years experience in a related role is preferred.
  • Experience working as, or with, volunteers is essential.
  • Experience and proven abilities in managing external partner relationships.
  • Experience in a non-profit organization would be an asset but not essential.

Technical Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent storytelling ability.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to see the “big picture”.
  • Sound project management, organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities:

The Development Team is made up of individuals and groups in roles that are distinct from each other however it is critical that they stay connected and aware of the bigger picture.

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Team Associate is responsible to proactively ensure exceptional communication within the Development Team as well as communication in connection with other BLC teams and external stakeholders. In addition, the Development Team Associate coordinates all international trips involving Development Team members and/or donors; supports travel planning for the Director of Development and Joint Ministry Representative; and coordinates logistics for Development Team events.

The incumbent should be highly organized and efficient and needs to have the ability to build and strengthen relationships within a wide variety of personalities and perspectives while upholding the foundational principles and vision of Bible League Canada.

Specific Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

Development Team Communication:

  • Develop, distribute, and maintain Development Team Meeting agendas, invitations, and minutes.
  • Facilitate communication and meeting/coaching schedules with contracted service providers.

Joint Ministry Communication:

  • Support the Joint Ministry Representative in internal BLC communication structure and documentation as well as that which happens between the Joint Ministry Representative and Mission Thrift Stores/ BFM stakeholders.
  • Support event logistics for the Joint Ministry Representative.

Travel Planning:

  • Coordinate International trips for Development Team members and donors.
  • Support travel and logistics planning for the Joint Ministry Representative, Director of Development, and Development Team Meetings.

Development Team Member:

  • Engage as a full-time Development Team and Bible League Canada staff member by attending all-staff meetings, retreats, training, and strategic planning.
  • Support and logistics for Development team events (virtual and/or live).
  • Support and/or back up Donor Relations Associates as needed.

Education and professional accreditation:

  • Education should include a Post-Secondary Certificate or Degree.

Experience:

  • Experience working in non-profit and/or ministry setting is an asset.
  • Experience and proven abilities in a professional office setting.
  • Experience in travel planning including international travel would be an asset.

Technical Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to see the “big picture.”
  • Sound project management, organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Manager of Development, the Donor Relations Associate will play a primary role in the ministry’s telephone strategy as part of our Donor Cultivation framework. This includes contacting identified donors for the purpose of engaging and cultivating their relationship with BLC. In pursuit of service excellence, the incumbent will ensure that every person contacted feels appreciated and that their support is valued and is producing results. The incumbent should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and interacting with donors effectively and diplomatically.

Specific responsibilities within the above areas include:

Current Donor Caseload Calls:

  • Cultivate a Donor Caseload (minimum 600 donors) through personal touchpoints including, but not limited to, phone calls, e-mail and other written correspondence.
  • Develop new and creative means of relationship building for the purpose of increased ministry.
  • Input all activities with donors into database.

Thank You Calls:

  • Thank all donors by phone for gifts received.
  • Provide written correspondence when needed.

Lapsed Donor Calls:

  • Re-engage donors who have not given in the past 12-18 months through a variety of personal touchpoints (i.e. phone, prayer, written correspondence, etc.)

Support

  • Provide back up for team members as needed.

*Additional responsibilities may be added in consultation with and at the discretion of your manager.

Education:

  • High School diploma required; some College level courses appropriate to the position or equivalent experience is a definite asset.
  • Sales and relational customer service training are a definite asset.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience and a proven track record in donor cultivation, customer service and/or sales.
  • Telecommunication experience is a definite asset.
  • Experience in a not-for-profit organization is an asset.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in MS Office (specifically Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Salesforce experience an asset but not essential.
  • Proficient in Internet research and search engine skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to “think on one’s feet” and deal with challenging conversations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Advanced organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to spend extended periods communicating via telephone.

How are Mission Thrift Stores and Bible League Canada connected?

In 1988, two businessmen traveled to India with Bible League Canada on a ministry tour. The trip left both men with a deep desire to help the people of India. Upon their return they had an idea that would assist Bible League Canada in their mission.

They organized a thrift store, and a foundation to disburse the funds raised.

Today, there are 50 Mission Thrift Stores across Canada, with money raised sent through the BFM Foundation Canada to Bible League Canada. More local champions are trained and equipped to share the love of Christ, more new believers are discipled, more Bibles are placed, and it all started with two men and an idea!
