And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Matthew 6:7-8 NIV

Listen to Words from the Heart

God Knows

There are some interesting things that only a Canadian would know. For example, if you’re in Newfoundland, you are geographically closer to Ireland that you are to British Columbia. Canada has two national sports – hockey in the winter and lacrosse in the summer. Canada is the only federation to not give its capital city special status. Ottawa is just like any other municipality in Ontario and could be dissolved by the province if it so chose. Canada has the world’s smallest desert.

There are those who believe prayer is simply repeating the same mantra over and over in order to capture the attention of their god, who really is no god at all. I happened to overhear a group praying like that one time – they kept repeating the same two prayers over and over again, but there was nothing personal about it, nothing intimate about it. I thought to myself at the time “how sad it is that they think this is prayer. God is waiting to hear from their hearts, but all they know to do is babble on incessantly.” The same was happening in Jesus’ day, even among the religious elite. So, He says this in Matthew 6:7-8: “And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” When you pray, just pour out your heart to the heavenly Father. He already knows what is in your heart. Let Him know how you are feeling. He loves you so much and is waiting to hear from you.

These have been words from the heart.
