“I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”

Known to Them

One of the most well-known Canadians in his generation, Dr. Marshall McLuhan was born in 1911, living into his 69th year. A quirky, eccentric academic, McLuhan was a media studies professor best known for pioneering a number of theories regarding how modern society is influenced by television and the news. Though his writings were often convoluted and vague, and are still debated to this day, his famous claim being that “the medium is the message,” or that technology determines the style of content.

One of my favourite chapters in the Bible is John 17. There is something incredibly comforting in knowing that Jesus is praying for me – and for you. His prayer in that chapter reminds us that we can always go straight to Him, bringing Him our everything, knowing that He is always available. In his John 17 prayer, we learn something important. John 17:26 says, “’I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.’” In a day when the post-modern atheist asks how we can know that there is a God, Jesus answers that. If you want to know what God is like, look to His Son. Jesus has made God known to us and continues to as we trust Him and build a relationship with Him. As we develop that relationship, recognizing that Jesus has taken up residence in us, we grow in grace and in the knowledge of Him. Take time today to deepen your relationship with Jesus, who is living His life in and through you.
