He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son,
but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.

This past September, Launch Canada gathered young rocketeers to show off their expertise. University students from across the country launched rockets just north of Timmins Ontario. It was part of the second annual competition and Stardust Festival, and it is the only place in the country where students can test their creations and actually blast them off. With eighteen teams lugging their rockets across the country to showcase their designs, the competition was larger than the inaugural event.

Christians tend to be hardworking people. That shouldn’t be a surprise. When we come into a relationship with our Creator God through faith in Jesus Christ, we realize that we are created with a purpose. What a joy and privilege it is to fulfill that purpose, serving God in all we do. Wise King Solomon realized that work has another blessing, besides a sense of worth and value. In Proverbs 10:5 we read, “He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.” In a human sense, hard work provides a roof over our heads and food on the table. But there is a spiritual sense to all of this. It is true that our redemption is a gift – paid for by Jesus when He laid down His life for us on the Cross, bearing our sin and punishment. In response to this amazing gift of eternal life, we are called to live a life of sharing our faith with others, taking the Gospel to others and reaping the harvest for the Kingdom. Be a prudent son or daughter of God.
These have been words from the heart.
