Look to the Lord and his strength;
seek his face always.

Look to the Lord

If you want to see quintessential Newfoundland, look to the island of Fogo. The Fogo Island Inn put Fogo on the global radar of architecture, design and art lovers, but this island of 2200 residents is actually Newfoundland in microcosm with friendly folks, shed parties and a strong quilt and knitting culture. Hike Joe Batt’s Point Trail to the statue of an extinct great auk (a black and white seabird), take Fogo Island Boat Tours out to see a puffin colony and buy lobster from the fish plant.

I recently read about a follower of Christ who was for years an atheist, a vocal opponent of the Gospel. When asked what was instrumental in his becoming a Christ-follower, he told the story of his little toddler who ended up in the hospital with a life-threatening disease. He said that when he was about to lose the most precious thing in his life, and there was nothing he could do about it, prayer lifted out of him. His son survived, but in that prayer the dad realized that people are, by nature, aware of the One who is greater than we. No wonder the Bible, in 1 Chronicles 16:11 says, “Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.” What a God we have, who is always willing to draw alongside us when we need His presence, when we reach the end of our strength and ability. Our Creator loves us and is always willing to be the support we need. How much better to trust Him now, when things are going well, and not just wait until we are close to losing what is most important.

These have been words from the heart.
