Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15 NIV

One Approved

In Canada, the mortgage preapproval process may be divided in various steps. It may also be called mortgage prequalification or mortgage preauthorization. Different lenders have different definitions and criteria for each step they offer. During this process, the lender looks at your finances to find out the maximum amount they may lend you and at what interest rate. They ask for your personal information, various documents and they likely run a credit check. This process does not guarantee your approval for a mortgage.

We all like it when we get approved for something – whether it’s a mortgage, or a group we want to join, or a professional association we have been preparing for. When we get the notice that we have been approved, we celebrate. For the follower of Jesus, the approval we want more than anything else, is God’s. Which makes 2 Timothy 2:15 so important: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” Without the presence and empowering of the Holy Spirit, we simply can’t present ourselves before God with assurance that we will receive His approval. As the Spirit fills our lives, however, He helps us understand God’s Word and how to live it out daily. As we do, living according to the principles of God’s Kingdom that we find clearly in His Word, we sense His approval. What a blessing to know that the more we live like Jesus, the more we rejoice as God’s peace and joy confirm His approval. Take time today in God’s Word, asking His Spirit to help us understand it and live it out.
