If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9 NIV
Confess
Nancy Tangon and Priscilla Ojomu, both psychology students, founded Canada Confesses, an anonymous online platform where people can safely share their experiences of racial and social injustice. The platform, which officially launched in February 2021, assists in exposing injustices in Canada while also sharing and amplifying marginalised voices. Tangon said, “We’re also trying to address people’s implicit biases, touching on topics that aren’t in people’s immediate consciousness – just promoting the conversation.” Canada Confesses also functions as an information network, linking grassroots organisations and providing resources for further research and social action.

Columnist Charles M. Blow once said “Concealment makes the soul a swamp. Confession is how you drain it.” We often think that we do best by hiding our sin and not letting anyone, including God, know about the things done in secret. But nothing could be further from the truth. A friend of mine who was a prison psychologist for years once told me that those behind bars would be so much better off if they could deal with their sin. That’s where confession comes in. The apostle wrote this in 1 John 1:9: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” If you are dealing with sin and guilt in your life, and who isn’t, the best solution, the only solution, is to confess your sin. You will find that Jesus is waiting to hear from you, and as John says here, He will forgive you, remove your sin, and purify you completely. Take time today to confess your sin to Him.
These have been words from the heart.
