Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Colossians 3:23-24 NIV

All Your Heart

It is easy for Canadians to love our country. The Trafalgar.com website says this: “One reason Canadians love Canada is because of their spectacular backyard. Spanning more than half of the Northern Hemisphere, Canada is made up of thousands of lakes, 48 national parks, wide open plains, lush forests and impressive mountain ranges like the Rocky Mountains. Not only is the landscape varied but so is the wildlife. Native Canadian animals include polar bears, Canada lynxes, moose, wolverines (yes that is a real animal), Beluga whales and beavers.”

When I was young and still in school, I had a job working in a lumber yard. It wasn’t me – I’m not handy and neither was my dad – so he never trained me to use tools and to build anything, other than with my Meccano set. I worked there, but my heart was never in it. It is likely that we’ve all had experiences in our lives where our hearts were not fully engaged – we were just going through the motions. Sadly, there are those who attend church, who have a form of religion but who deny the power, as 2 Timothy 3:5 says. They maintain outward religious appearances, but their priority isn’t Jesus, and their heart isn’t fully engaged in serving Him. It has always been thus, which is why Paul writes, in Colossians 3:23-24: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Is loving and serving Jesus your great passion?

These have been words from the heart.
