“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
God Knows
Here is something you need to know about Canada. One of the least surprising facts about Canada is that it can get pretty cold in the winter. The average low for the month of January in Ottawa is -14.4 C. That’s pretty cold! However, a temperature recorded in 1947 in Snag, Yukon makes the rest of Canada’s winter weather seem like a relaxing beach vacation. A temperature of -63 C was recorded in the small village of Snag on February 3, 1947. That’s roughly the same temperature as the surface of Mars!

It seems to me that Jeremiah 29:11 is one of the most memorized verses in the Bible. We love it because it gives us that assurance that we are not an accident, and that God has a well laid out plan for our lives, that will bring us hope and a future. The verse says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” We usually focus on the promises when we think about this verse. Today, let’s focus instead on the first three words God uses – “For I know.” God knows all things – theologians call this omniscience. There is nothing he doesn’t know about what is happening now, and what will be happening in the future. He is outside of time and so is continually in the now. He is already in all that will be happening in your future – so there is nothing coming your way that God isn’t already present. He has you in His plans. So, rest easy – He has your future.
These have been words from the heart.
