And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
1 John 4:16 NIV
Abiding
If Canada decides to maintain permanent Daylight Savings Time, most Canadians will have to abide with 9:00 am and later sunrises on the shortest days of the year. Take sunrise times across the country on New Year’s Day. The first day of the year wouldn’t see the sunrise until 8:51 a.m. in Toronto, 9:07 a.m. in Vancouver, and not until almost 10:00 a.m. in Edmonton. US Congress tried to make Daylight Savings Time permanent in 1973 but people didn’t like the morning darkness, so it only lasted one year.

The English language is one of the most challenging languages to learn for a couple of reasons – there are far too many exceptions to the rules, and it lacks a variety of words that other languages have that helps make things clearer. The word love is a good example. In the Greek language, there are a number of words that are translated as love in English. One example of this is found in 1 John 4:16 and understanding the correct Greek word helps clarify things. The verse says this, “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” There are those who will try to use this verse to say that whoever expresses love to others is accepted by God. But that isn’t what this says, and it misses the most important part of love. What it says is, “whoever lives in agape love lives in God.” In order to live in agape love, we must have first experienced God’s agape love as expressed in Jesus.
These have been words from the heart.
