I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord…
Psalm 121:1-2a NIV
Lifted Up Eyes
There are several types of eye care professionals in Canada, including optometrists, ophthalmologists, and opticians. Optometrists are the primary eye care providers in Canada and can perform eye exams, diagnose and treat common eye conditions, and prescribe corrective lenses. Ophthalmologists are medical doctors who specialize in eye care and can perform surgery, diagnose and treat more complex eye conditions, and prescribe medications. Opticians are trained to fit and dispense eyeglasses and contact lenses based on prescriptions from optometrists or ophthalmologists.

If you’ve driven the Icefields Parkway in Alberta, you know what it’s like to lift your eyes up to the mountains. Around every corner there is another breathtaking scene, another snow-capped mountain. There are few more beautiful drives in the world. Israel doesn’t have a plethora of mountains like this, but it does have a few. Mount Hermon in the north is lovely and is snowcapped for the winter months. King David uses the idea of looking up to view a mountain scene to describe how our hearts should be when looking up to the Glory of God. In Psalm 121:1-2 he writes, “I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord…” God is always available to His people when they need his help. What usually happens when we are going through a tough time is to look down – in dejection, hopelessness, and grief. David reminds us to get our eyes up onto the Lord who created and redeemed us. If you are going through a tough time right now, lift your eyes up and onto the Lord. He is the source of your help.
These have been words from the heart.
