Murders are far rarer in Canada than in many other countries. Where I live, murders are very rare – some years there are none – at most, one or two. The community usually pays close attention to the trials. There is one murder trial that stands out above all others in the history of the world. The only truly innocent person, Jesus the Christ, was charged, sentenced and crucified within a few hours. There was never before, and hasn’t been since, a greater travesty of justice. In speaking to the crowd following the coming of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, the apostle Peter speaks to the crowd. In Acts 3:15 Peter says, “You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this.” We are all guilty of killing Jesus. It was our sins that sent Jesus to the Cross. He died to bear the punishment that I deserve for my sin, and you deserve for yours. The good news is that this was all a part of God’s redemptive plan. He willingly went to the Cross because He loves us, we whose sins put Him there. What incredible love.
