Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
Straight Paths
Canada is a country known for its world class hiking trails. Some of them are incredibly challenging, including the Canol Heritage Trail in the Northwest Territories and Tombstone Territorial Park in Yukon. The Canol Trail runs for 350 kilometres from the Yukon/Northwest Territories border to Norman Wells. It will take you 20 days to compete. Tombstone is shorter – only 75 kilometres – but the only way to get to the start is by helicopter. The trail runs along the spectacular Beringia Mountain Range.

There are trails and paths all over Canada. Many of them are through some of the planet’s most beautiful places. But few of them would be called straight. Many can be very challenging. We might appreciate that kind of trail when it comes to hiking, but in life we prefer when the path God take us on is clear. There is a way to remain in the centre of God’s will for our lives. King Solomon noticed this in Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” There is no secret to remaining in God’s sweet spot – it comes down to two things – trust and submission. As we walk in complete trust in God and submit to what He teaches in His Word and leads us by the Holy Spirit, we will find that He is leading us every step of the way. If you want to know God’s will, trust Him in everything and submit to Him in all things, and He will guide you every step of the way.
These have been words from the heart.
