Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

Put Into Practice

Last May, Athletics Canada announced the team of eight athletes who would go on to compete at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships in the marathon, 10,000 metres, and 35 km race walk events. The marathon qualification period concluded on May 4, when the full complement of six marathon athletes was finalized. Held this past September, more than 2,000 athletes from some 200 countries put into practice all they had learned in order to take part in one of the world’s biggest sporting events.

One of the most important aspects in the training of someone in the trades is gaining hands-on experience. While it’s important to gain the head knowledge, there is nothing better than being on the job site, learning from someone who has been involved in that trade for years. If this is the case in practical service, it is even more so when it comes to our relationship with Jesus. As you examine the Gospel accounts, you will discover they are a training manual for Jesus’ followers on how to put into practice all He was teaching about the Kingdom of God. Paul would write this in Philippians 4:9: “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me – put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” As important as it is to study God’s Word and learn about Jesus and His call on us, all that head knowledge isn’t His ultimate goal. Today, get out into the real world and put into practice all you’ve learned in studying God’s word, living it out among your friends and neighbours so they can see Jesus in you.

These have been words from the heart.
