Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

1 Timothy 6:12 NIV

Fight the Good Fight

The war against the U-boats from 1939 to 1945 was the formative experience for the Royal Canadian Navy in the twentieth century. Fought largely by reservists in small ships built in Canada and operating from Canadian bases, the defence of North Atlantic trade against the submarine menace defined a naval role for Canada within a much larger alliance. After 1945, the Royal Canadian Navy became the best anti-submarine warfare navy in the world as part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

I wish I could tell you that living for Jesus was always a walk in the park. But it isn’t. The Bible speaks about the spiritual battle that is fought in the heavenlies but is played out in the human heart. Jesus spent forty days in the wilderness, dealing with the enemy, who misused God’s Word and brought temptation to the Lord. No wonder the apostle Paul wrote this in 1 Timothy 6:12: “Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” Every day when we wake up, we need to recognize that living for Jesus, living a life of holiness and integrity, is going to take courage and complete trust in Jesus. We need to daily put on the full armour of God, the equipment that the Lord gives to all who name Him as Saviour and Lord. We are in a battle, for righteousness and the souls of those around us. We need to take hold of all Jesus has given to His people involved in the fight of faith.

These have been words from the heart.
