…and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.
1 Thessalonians 1:10 NIV
Waiting for Jesus
Processing times for Canadian immigration applications have reached unprecedented lengths — up to 50 years under some permanent residency programs — stunning applicants and lawyers who say the system has become unviable. “We were shocked,” said Olha Kushko, whose family fled Kyiv and settled in Ottawa in 2023 under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel, a special measure introduced after Russia’s full-scale invasion. Kushko said “It doesn’t have any sense. I don’t know how it’s possible, so I can’t believe it.”

Not many of us are patient people. Some are quite impatient. In our fast-food world, we expect our food to be ready almost instantly. I checked on drive thru times and the fastest on average is Taco Bell, with four minutes and sixteen seconds from driving into the line until driving away with your order. That may be how our world works, which makes it difficult for those of us who follow Jesus. As Paul writes to the Thessalonian believers, he honours them for turning from their idols and turning to the living God. He then goes on to express his appreciation for their patient faith and service as they wait for Jesus’ return. In 1 Thessalonians 1:10, he writes: “…and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead – Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.” Jesus is coming back. We don’t know when, although the Bible does give us some things to look for in anticipation. It has been 2000 years since Jesus ascended into Glory. Let’s continue to be watchful and wait patiently for the return of our beloved Jesus. Maranatha.
These have been words from the heart.
