the Lord gives sight to the blind,
the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,
the Lord loves the righteous.

A report in the Globe and Mail a year ago reported that Canada is no longer one of the richest nations in the world. It said “In the 1950s and 60s, Canada’s economy grew at a rate of more than 5 per cent annually, after inflation. By the 1970s that had slowed to roughly 4 per cent; to 3 per cent in the 1980s; to 2.4 per cent in the 1990s; to 2 per cent in the 2000s. Over the past 10 years, it has averaged just 1.7 per cent.

We’ve all had days when we find it difficult to lift our head. Our body language matches our mood – we feel down, and we find it easier to stare at the sidewalk than look to the skies. Sadly, some people find themselves in this frame of mind for a long time. Life seems to have no meaning and even less hope. King David must have had days when hope seemed fleeting, but he knew that His God was never far away. In Psalm 146:8 he wrote, “the Lord gives sight to the blind, the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down, the Lord loves the righteous.” David knew that the God he loved, loved him even more. More than once, at the lowest point in his life, God had drawn close and lifted his head, and his life from the pit. He will do the same for you. Whatever you are facing, Jesus has come to lift you out of your deepest place, because He loves you.
These have been words from the heart.
