…and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you…

1 Thessalonians 4:11 NIV

Live Quietly

If you’re thinking about relocating to one of the best cities to live in Canada or just scouting out nice places to visit, a new ranking of the most peaceful places might help you plan your next move — or at least inspire a Canadian road trip. A recent ranking looked at four peacefulness-related factors: air quality, population density, and search volume data related to spas and overall noise. Coming in first place was Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec. This dreamy little town is nestled between mountains and the St. Lawrence River in Quebec’s scenic Charlevoix region.

In a world of influencers, where so many battle to grow their online presence and so many want to gain fame by going to extremes and pushing the limits of acceptability, the mark of the Kingdom of God is something altogether different. Paul writes this in 1 Thessalonians 4:11: “…and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you…” In a world that pushes us to be loud, visible, and constantly striving for recognition, the Lord invites us to something different. A steady spirit. A faithful work ethic. A heart that isn’t tangled up in everyone else’s affairs. There is deep strength in that kind of life. Now, a quiet life is not a passive life. It’s a purposeful one. It’s choosing peace over drama. It’s being diligent in your responsibilities. It’s honouring Christ in the unseen places—at home, at work, in simple daily routines. The lives that make the deepest impact are the ones lived faithfully, one ordinary day at a time.

These have been words from the heart.
