In this day of social media, where everyone has a platform for their opinion and conspiracy theories fly about like moths under a porch light, it’s hard to know what the truth is. I was reading the other day about a court case where the defendant said “well, that’s the truth as I want it to be.” Many days we feel like we’re trapped in a web of half-truths and full lies. Many even admit there is no ultimate truth, and everyone’s opinion is as valid as anyone else’s, even though not everyone can be right. So, what can we do? Jesus not only taught that there is ultimate truth, but even more so, He IS the truth. In John 8:32 he said, “’Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’” Jesus was teaching his disciples that those who held to his teaching will know the truth. And in knowing that truth, they will be set free – free from sin and guilt, free from longing for a relationship with God, free from the fear of death. When you know Jesus by faith, you are truly set free.
These have been words from the heart.
