The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever.
Isaiah 40:8 NIV
Forever
As the United States sets its first national limits on toxic forever chemicals in drinking water, researchers say Canada is lagging when it comes to regulations. Still, they acknowledged that Canada is making progress in trying to reduce and prevent the contamination of water in the country. From carpeting to non-stick cookware, so-called forever chemicals have been widely found in consumer products since the 1950s. These chemicals are designed to be so strong that they don’t break down fully in the environment.

It has been said that nothing lasts forever and if you were to ask most Canadians, they would nod their head in agreement with this statement. The result is that people tend to love the newest tech product, the latest fad, the trendiest clothes. The challenge is that when we forget the past we really are condemned to relive it. How much wiser is it to look to the one source of unchangeable wisdom and truth – the Bible. Millenia ago, the prophet said this in Isaiah 40:8: “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” No matter how things seem to change in our world, human nature never does. Wars continue to be fought, sin continues to keep people in its grip, hope seems so elusive. So, the unchanging God continues to speak into the changing culture with His forever word, offering hope, redemption, Jesus. He alone remains the hope for the world; and, as we dig into the Bible, we discover the stabilization for which we long and the hope that will carry us through this life and into eternity.
These have been words from the heart.
