There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV

A Time

If you want to travel through Canada, one of the best ways to do it is the Via Rail train, which cuts through the awe-inspiring landscape connecting the world’s second-largest country. If you plan to do so, however, you’d better make sure you have lots of time. The length of the journey across Canada by train, depending on the season of the year, usually takes between five and six days. You’ll also learn some history along the way, as there are semi-regular announcements when the train passes noteworthy landmarks.

An African friend has a saying that impacts me every time he says it – “You Canadians have watches. We Africans have time.” It reminds me how frantic life can be for us. It seems we are always rushing to get things accomplished, and we seem so hurried to those in other cultures. The Bible often speaks of time, one of the best-known being Ecclesiastes 3:1: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” The chapter goes on to remind us that God has established a time for everything in this life. He is ultimately in control of everything and nothing we are going through will last forever. If you are going through a challenging time right now, the difficulties will end and better times are ahead. Trust God in the midst of all you are going through. If life is good right now, be thankful. God is with you as well, and when the difficult times come, and they no doubt will, God will not abandon you then, just as He has not now.
