The name of the Lord is a fortified tower;
the righteous run to it and are safe.
Proverbs 18:10 NIV
Secure Refuge
The Canadian Security Intelligence Service, or CSIS, was created by Act of Parliament in 1984 as an agency of the Department of the Solicitor General. The agency’s first director was Thomas D’Arcy Finn, a lawyer and career public servant. CSIS’s purpose is to conduct security investigations within Canada related to suspected subversion, terrorism and foreign espionage and sabotage. In its first years of existence, its priority was the investigation of terrorist groups because of a number of violent crimes with political overtones.

In a world where far too many people live in fear of violence and hunger, with the largest number of refugees and internally displaced in the history of the world, one of the greatest needs is for security. Every one of us longs to have a place of safety, somewhere we can go to find peace and solace. This has always been the case. So, it shouldn’t surprise us that King Solomon writes this in Proverbs 18:10: “The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” The follower of Jesus often faces challenges living for the Lord in this world. We are called to be ambassadors for the Kingdom of God, living cross-culturally in order to bring the truth and love of Jesus to a world that often finds Him a threat to their self-centred and selfish desires. Jesus is the strong tower and a place of safety for those who love Him. If you are facing a challenging time, if you are dealing with those who don’t understand your love for Jesus, you will find Him to be your place of security and refuge.
These have been words from the heart.
