See, a king will reign in righteousness
and rulers will rule with justice.

Reign in Righteousness

The Speech from the Throne of the Parliament of Canada took place on May 27, 2025, when Charles III, King of Canada, opened the new session of the 45th Canadian Parliament, which was the first after the 2025 federal election. Charles delivered the Throne Speech, his first as King of Canada, and the first for any Canadian monarch since 1977. He set out the Canadian government’s legislative priorities for the following parliamentary session. Along with Queen Camilla, Charles travelled to the Senate through Wellington Street in Canada’s state landau.

Canada is a constitutional monarchy and will be for the long term – our constitution makes it virtually impossible to get rid of a monarch as our head of state. While most kings and queens these days have very little power and authority, there is one who reigns supremely, and when His Kingdom finally comes in its fullness, His reign will be as perfect as He is. The reign of King Jesus was prophesied long before His entrance into the world on the first Christmas. In Isaiah 32:1, we read, “See, a king will reign in righteousness and rulers will rule with justice.” With the exception of Mary and Joseph, those who gathered around the manger on the night that Jesus was born couldn’t possibly have imagined who this really was that had entered the world. They had no idea that one day, long into their future, and not as long into ours, the one who was born in a stable, who sits on the eternal throne of the Kingdom of God, and reigns in righteousness, will return. We still long for that day. As we prepare to celebrate His first coming, let’s also prepare for His second.

These have been words from the heart.
