The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

Exodus 14:14 NIV

Only Be Silent

If you’re looking for some time of complete silence, I’ve got a couple of suggestions. Athabasca Sand Dunes in Saskatchewan, stretching 100 kilometres along the south shore of Lake Athabasca, is the largest active sand surface in Canada and is only accessible by float plane. Reaching nearly 100 feet high, the dunes make for incredible scenery and foster a unique ecosystem. If you’re truly looking for isolation, then look no further than Hornby Island. It will take you two ferry rides to finally get to the island, but its beautiful white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters are well worth the journey.

Silence is a rare commodity in our world, particularly if you live in an urban centre. Friends of ours from Toronto recently visited us here in the country and she said the silence at night took some getting used to. It isn’t always easy to find silence, and even more difficult to be silent when we are frightened or feel we have been slighted. In Exodus, the people were far from silent as they were fleeing from Egypt and looked back to see the Egyptian army chasing them. They immediately began to complain to Moses, rueing the fact that they had bothered to flee Egypt. We read Moses’ reply in Exodus 14:14: “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” This is a promise for us as well. No matter what you are facing right now, God has His eye on you. Nothing will ever come your way that hasn’t first passed His okay. So be still, be silent, and watch the Lord work on your behalf.

These have been words from the heart.
