…not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter—asserting that the day of the Lord has already come.

2 Thessalonians 2:2 NIV

Jesus Hasn’t Come

In 1939, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother) became the first reigning King and Queen to visit Canada. During the 1939 Canadian tour the Queen Mother was known for her personal charm and ability to connect with people from different walks of life. King George VI and Queen Elizabeth participated in one of the first royal walkabouts while in Canada, meeting with First World War veterans at the National War Memorial in Ottawa. The 1939 visit was one of the most successful royal tours of all time.

We live in a world of ideas and opinions, and social media offers to everyone the opportunity to express these. The result is great confusion in the minds of many as they are introduced to concepts and feelings that in the past they never would have. This leaves many unsettled and troubled. We get some good counsel from the apostle Paul in this, as he writes to the believers in Thessalonica who were being introduced to ideas that had allegedly come from Paul, but which were not and were not true. He urges them in 2 Thessalonians 2:2: “…not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us – whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter – asserting that the day of the Lord has already come.” There is a quiet wisdom here for us. Not every voice deserves a place in your spirit. Not every message carries truth. Paul gently reminds us that our stability is not found in chasing every new idea, but in holding firmly to what we already know to be true from God’s unchanging Word.

These have been words from the heart.
