Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James, To those who have been called, who are loved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ…

Jude 1:1 NIV

Called and Loved

Topping the list of nations in RepCore® Nations 2025 report, produced by Reputation Lab, listed among Condé Nast Traveler’s top destinations, home to three of the top five spots on North America’s 50 Best Restaurants list, and now with Vancouver, Banff and Quebec named amongst National Geographic’s Best of the World 2026, the love for Canada keeps growing (and for good reason). But beyond the accolades, it’s the welcome woven into every corner of this country that keeps people coming back. Canada greets you like a neighbour.

I often wonder what it must have been like growing up in Jesus’ human family. We don’t get a lot of information in the Gospels, but we do know that at the beginning of His ministry, His family so misunderstood Him and His mission that they wanted to bring Him home and talk some sense into Him. Which makes the epistle of His half-brother Jude so profound. At some point, not only did Jude understand who Jesus was, but in his letter, he begins by calling himself a servant. Jude 1:1 says, “Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James, To those who have been called, who are loved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ…” In introducing himself to his readers, he could easily have said “brother of James and Jesus” but he did not. He introduced himself as a servant of Jesus. Jude understood his need for a Saviour, and so in humility simply calls himself a servant of the One who had redeemed him, like the others called and loved to whom he is writing, including us.
