How good and pleasant it is
when God’s people live together in unity!

Psalm 133:1 NIV

Unity

Canadian Unity, Task Force was established 1977 by the federal government in response to the election of a sovereignty-oriented Québec government. It was co-chaired by Jean-Luc PEPIN, former federal Liberal minister, and John Robarts, former Conservative premier of Ontario. Its purpose was to gather opinions about the problems of unity in the country, to publicize efforts being made to solve those problems and to advise the government on how to strengthen national unity. The report stirred much discussion, and its recommendations were given serious attention before the constitutional developments.

One of the blessings of being a follower of Christ is we get each other. When we come to faith in Jesus, we become a part of the family of God. It’s a very big family – there are millions of us around the world. To the non-Christian, the Christian family can look divided – by denomination, point of theology, culture, language. I could go on and on. But it isn’t the will of God that His people be divided. We need each other to stand strong in Jesus and to live according to Biblical and Kingdom principles. In John 17 Jesus prayed that we all might be one, as He and the Father is one. But far earlier, King David understood the need for God’s people to dwell together in unity. In Psalm 133:1, he writes: “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” There is no fellowship as sweet as that enjoyed by those who love Jesus. As we pray together, worship together, study together, the Holy Spirit who is in each of us, binds us together – it is, as David says, good and pleasant.
