Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge…

A Word to the Wise

According to a report on the website 996Advisors.com, independent voices are reshaping Canadian new media in 2025. “Canada’s new media landscape is evolving rapidly, with independent voices on YouTube and TikTok driving a dynamic shift. In July 2025, left-leaning YouTube channels saw faster follower growth than right-leaning ones, signaling rising demand for progressive perspectives. However, right-leaning voices, like Moose on the Loose, dominate total views, reflecting their established audiences and polished content. On TikTok, traditional media and independent creators are vying for influence, with distinct trends emerging.”

In this day of social media, it is challenging to know what the truth is, regarding just about everything. Everybody has a slant on what is being reported – and their slant will skew the news. While it is more blatant these days, it has ever been so. In larger cities in the past, where there was more than one newspaper, each paper was known for the political party it usually supported. So how does a follower of Jesus know what to believe? King Solomon understood this and writes in Proverbs 22:17: “Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge…” When the Bible speaks about those who are wise, it is specifically speaking about those who fear the Lord – that, the Bible says, is the beginning of wisdom. We are called to turn away from the various voices that flood social media and listen – incline our ears – to those voices that understand life through the lens of God’s Word and who have a Biblical world view. We are citizens of the Kingdom of God, and we are called to be wise in what we think and to whom we listen.

These have been words from the heart.
