Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

Faith and Hearing

37 per cent of Canadian adults have hearing loss. Many more Canadians over age 40 have high-frequency hearing loss and aren’t aware of it. Experts say that losing your hearing and not getting that loss treated can lead to social isolation, loneliness and even cognitive decline. Untreated hearing loss can lead to relationship issues and social isolation — a major problem for older adults, said Dr. Paul Mick, an otolaryngologist and associate professor at the University of Saskatchewan.

I follow the social media Bible League Canada posts and I’m particularly drawn to those who don’t appreciate all our partners do around the world to bring Jesus and God’s Word to those around them. One statement last week said we should just let people have their own religion. It’s obvious that the person who said this has never met Jesus, because when a person does, through faith, he or she can’t help but telling others about Him. The apostle Paul knew this, and in Romans 10:17 he writes “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.” We are called to be people who spread the word about Jesus and introduce them to Him. As the Gospel is shared, the Holy Spirit works in the life of the listener and faith rises. That’s what Paul is saying here – faith comes when the message is heard, and the message must always be about Christ. He is the answer all people are looking for, no matter where they live or what religion they traditionally practice. Everybody needs Jesus.

These have been words from the heart.
