This is the day that the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad today!
Psalm 118:24 NCV
This is the Day
From Lake Erie to the Arctic Archipelago, the country spans nearly half the distance from equator to pole – most of it at high latitudes where the tilt of the planet’s axis means that the sun intersects the horizon with a lingering sideways sweep. In northern Canada, especially, sunsets are never rushed and twilight can last till dawn. All of this makes Canadian sunsets less about crossing the boundary from day to night and more about a state of mind that hovers deliciously in between.

Here’s a bit of news that shouldn’t surprise you – the sun came up today. It was cloudy here, so I didn’t actually see the golden orb itself, but it got light out, so I know that somewhere behind the clouds, the sun is there. The fact that the world runs so incredibly predictably isn’t by accident. Our Creator didn’t just wind up the world like a clock and then leave it to run by itself. He brought all things into being and then carefully watches over it to ensure that it continue to operate smoothly. No wonder we can set our watches and our calendars by it. God creates each new day and offers it to us. No wonder King David wrote this in Psalm 118:24: “This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad today!” The fact that you are reading, or hearing, this means that you woke up today. This day is a gift to you from your Creator. Take time today to rejoice in the gift of the day.
These have been words from the heart.
