You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
Psalms 139:1-2 NIV
The Searching God
If you have ever had a loved one go missing, you pour everything into searching for that person. You might be surprised to learn that, according to the RCMP, between 70,000 and 80,000 people in Canada are reported missing to police. In Nova Scotia, 283 people were reported missing in 2023. While the vast majority are found within a week, thousands are never found, leaving families, friends and often entire communities to wonder what happened, searching for the one who is lost.

You no doubt have heard people say “nobody understands me,” and for some people, that is true. They may come from a family where they always felt like the odd one out. They may have suffered abuse or abandonment, causing them to be dealing with some serious emotional and personality issues. If you are thinking this way, I have some good news for you – your Creator understands you completely. He knows exactly what you have been through, as well as the way He created you. The Psalmist writes this in Psalm 139:1-2: “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.” King David goes on to speak about God knowing when we rise up and sit down – there is nothing He doesn’t know about us. He loves you, because He created you. He wants you to be the very best you can be, and that happens when you live your life in Christ. He does know you, and He will make you the very best you that is possible.
These have been words from the heart.
