But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ…

Citizenship in Heaven

There are many benefits of having a Canadian passport. In 2025, the Canadian passport was ranked the seventh most powerful in the world, based on the number of visa-free travel destinations it offers. Those holding Canadian passports can visit 188 destinations visa-free, as of 2025. As a Canadian citizen, you do not require a passport to enter Canada—but being able to present a Canadian passport to Canadian border authorities can make for a smoother entry into Canada.

I suspect you don’t spend much time thinking about what it means to be a citizen of Canada. For most of us, it is who we are – we just know how to act, think, and talk like a Canadian. This isn’t so easy when it comes to our citizenship in the Kingdom of God. It takes conscious effort to live like Jesus in our world. The apostle Paul says this about that in Philippians 3:20: “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ…” In a world filled with shifting values and uncertain future, Paul’s words remind us of a profound truth: we belong to a kingdom not of this earth. Our true citizenship is in heaven, secured by the grace of Christ. This identity shapes how we live, love, and hope. As believers, we are called to live as ambassadors of heaven—reflecting the character of Christ in our daily lives. This means choosing integrity over compromise, compassion over indifference, and faith over fear. Though we walk through earthly trials, our hearts are anchored in the promise of eternal life with Jesus.
