How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Psalm 119:103 NIV
Sweet Words
Canada has more lakes than the rest of the world combined. At last count, there may be as many as two million, with 563 of them larger than 100 square kilometres. Among its largest lakes are Lake Huron in Ontario, Great Bear Lake in the Northwest Territories, and Lake Superior also in Ontario. There are large lakes in Manitoba as well. You will find Lake Winnipegosis, Lake Manitoba, and Lake Winnipeg here. Lake Winnipeg is Canada’s fifth and the world’s 11th largest lake.

I love sweet things – maple syrup, honey, fresh fruit, pineapple pizza, and sweet words. We all like it when someone says something nice about us. Encouragers are always appreciated. It has always been this way. King David wrote about God’s words in Psalm 119 and in verse 103 he says, “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” Sugar wasn’t a big deal in David’s day, but honey was. It was used to sweeten all sorts of things. So, he knew what he was getting at when he said that God’s words are sweeter to his soul than honey is to his mouth. Are they to you? In a time when God’s Word, the Bible, is denigrated by those in the world and even some within the Church, David reminds us that God’s words are life giving and a great blessing to his soul. God’s people have experienced this. When the going gets tough, we head to God’s Word, and we find what He says there is a balm to our souls and a strength when we are weak. Take time to read and ponder the sweet words that God has given us in His Word.
These have been words from the heart.
