“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.”
Matthew 6:28-29 NIV
Dressed
Designed by Frederick G. Todd, Canada’s first registered landscape architect, Assiniboine Park—located just minutes from downtown Winnipeg—has a lot going for it, notably its botanical gardens. You’ll feel worlds away from city stressors when wandering the winding paths of the park’s English Garden. Unlike most English gardens, which follow a regimented symmetry, the flowing layout of this one allows for a more casual connection to nature.

This is a beautiful time of the year. Gardens are in full bloom and with the winters we have in this country, Canadians love flowers and take great care to see them flourish. Flowers have to be some of God’s very best creation. Jesus would certainly agree with this. In Matthew 6:28-29 He says, “’And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.’” The Lord uses flowers to point to His care for the highest of His creation. He knew that people worry so much. Even the followers of Jesus too often walk in fear instead of faith. What a difference it would make to our daily lives if we could walk in trust that our God loves us and will take care of us. Jesus had just taught His followers to pray for their daily bread. As we pray for the basics of life, let’s learn to pray in faith. If God cares for the birds and the flowers, how much more will our Creator care for us. Trust Him to do so.
These have been words from the heart.
