There are a lot of reasons why we should take delight in our country, and one reason, according to a Canada Day article published on the universitymagazine.com website on Canada Day last year is … peanut butter. According to the article, “It was not until 1925 that the first jar of peanut butter was sold commercially. Canada played an essential role in the commercialization of peanut butter. The first jar of peanut butter sold commercially was made in Canada. Happy 100th anniversary, peanut butter.

We all take delight in something. People take delight in their family members, in the beauty of nature, in their favourite team winning a championship, in music. What we delight in brings us much joy and can take us through some very challenging times. King David reminds those of us who belong to Jesus that we are to take delight in the Lord. He writes in Psalm 37:4: “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” There is no piece of music as lovely as our Jesus. There is no beauty in creation that is as beautiful as our God. There is no human relationship that is as precious as our relationship with the Lord. As we ponder all He is to us, we take delight in Him, and as we do, we find that He becomes our heart’s desire. The closer we get to Him, the more we want to look like Him, act like Him, think like Him. When that becomes the desire of our heart, we can count on Him providing all we need for that to be so.
