How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace,
who bring good tidings,
who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion,
“Your God reigns!”
Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices;
together they shout for joy.
When the Lord returns to Zion,
they will see it with their own eyes.
Burst into songs of joy together,
you ruins of Jerusalem,
for the Lord has comforted his people,
he has redeemed Jerusalem.
The Lord will lay bare his holy arm
in the sight of all the nations,
and all the ends of the earth will see
the salvation of our God.

Isaiah 52:7-10 NIV

Beautiful Feet

Feet get us around – we use them for running, walking and jumping. And yet, most people know very little about what actually goes on inside the foot. Feet generally get taken for granted – that is, until something goes wrong with them. Nothing incapacitates you as much as a broken or badly infected foot. About 60 percent of all foot and ankle injuries, reported by the Canadian population older than 17, were sprains and strains of the ankle. As a person’s income increases, the prevalence of foot problems decreases.

Our feet are used by those in our medical community to measure our overall health. Just ask anyone with diabetes how often their doctor checks the health of their feet. Our feet are vital to our mobility – healthy feet are needed for ease of movement. In biblical days, walking was the number one means of travel, and so people were careful to take care of their feet. No wonder the prophet used feet to describe the coming of the Messiah. Isaiah 52:7-10 says, “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’ Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices; together they shout for joy. When the Lord returns to Zion, they will see it with their own eyes. Burst into songs of joy together, you ruins of Jerusalem, for the Lord has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem. The Lord will lay bare his holy arm in the sight of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.”
