For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators of God’s churches in Judea, which are in Christ Jesus: You suffered from your own people the same things those churches suffered from the Jews…
1 Thessalonians 2:14 NIV
Imitators
Art has always been a profound expression of culture, history, and identity. In Canada, Indigenous art stands as a vibrant testament to the rich heritage and diverse traditions of Indigenous peoples. However, amidst the celebration of this cultural wealth, a troubling issue looms large – the prevalence of counterfeit Indigenous art known as imitation art. The industry of fake Indigenous art ranges from designs copied onto apparel and home décor, to carved masks and totem poles, often reproduced in Asia and Eastern Europe, and sold cheaply in Canada.

We need each other in the family of God – in our own church fellowship, other Christians where we live, and around the world. There is so much about following Jesus that we can learn from others who love the Lord. Paul understood this in writing to the believers in Thessalonica. In 1 Thessalonians 2:14, he says, “For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators of God’s churches in Judea, which are in Christ Jesus: you suffered from your own people the same things those churches suffered from the Jews…” We are never alone in our struggles. God’s Spirit connects us to a global family of believers who have endured, persevered, and kept their eyes on Jesus. When trials come, we can take heart in the example of those who suffered before us, knowing that God uses our faithfulness to strengthen others, just as their faith strengthens us. Today, let us stand together, encouraging one another, and rejoicing that even in opposition, we are part of God’s unfolding work in the world. Our unity in Christ is a powerful testimony to a watching world.
These have been words from the heart.
