I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

John 15:11 NIV

Complete Joy

On the Psychology Today Canada website, an article says, “When I was little, I used to be gifted these little hand-painted porcelain figurines that just so happened to be called ‘Precious Moments.’ They were gifted to me by my mother. After I lost her, I knew I would never get a Precious Moment again. So, I set the intention of seeking out and creating precious moments of my own. I did this same practice with my kids when they were little. Each morning, I would send them out with their quest to find a precious moment—something that made them smile or brought them joy.

Joy is one of the greatest gifts a human being can receive. It comes at memorable times in our lives – a wedding, the birth of a child, graduation, seeing a beautiful sight. We remember moments of joy. Being fully human, Jesus understood those moments of joy. The Gospels record some of these very human moments – the wedding in Cana, the celebrating lame man as he stands up and walks, the women with the anointing oil at the empty tomb when the realization of Jesus’ resurrection dawns on them. All of this must have brought fully human Jesus much joy Himself. Which just might be the foundation of what He says in John 15:11: “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” Jesus’ greatest joy is seeing His children, you and me, when we remain in His love and so experience the complete joy that He alone can bring.
