I love food. I’m blessed to be married to an amazing cook and baker, and my role in all that is to be the family bread maker. We haven’t bought a loaf of bread from a store in years – I love my bread maker. I love trying new recipes and I have found that there are very few loaves of fresh hot bread that don’t taste amazing! I’m grateful that King David used food as a picture of our relationship with our Creator. In Psalm 34:8 he writes, “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” We have all taken the first taste of a new dish and our immediate response is “Oh my, that is delicious.” We want more of it, and if it uses a recipe, we want that recipe. That is the sense here that David is getting at. When we taste of the things of the Lord, we crave more – of His peace, His joy, His forgiveness, His righteousness, His strength. And we want more of what He offers. Today, taste and see that the Lord is good!
These have been words from the heart.
