…every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:11 NIV
Every Tongue
There are around 70 distinct Indigenous languages in Canada, falling into 12 separate language families. While in many places there has been decreased transmission of languages from one generation to the next, recognition of this has led to efforts by Indigenous peoples to revitalize and sustain their languages. Canada, and North America more generally, represent a highly complex linguistic region, with numerous languages and great linguistic diversity. Indigenous languages are spoken widely and are official languages in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.

I was reading the other day that Canadians are generally quiet about their faith, whatever their faith. It is part of our national identity, the article said. While Canadians are generally quiet about a lot of our opinions, the Bible doesn’t give the follower of Jesus the option to be quiet about our faith. Jesus says in Matthew 10:33 that if we deny Him before others, He will deny us before the Father. Paul teaches in Romans 10:9 that in order to be saved, we have to not only believe in our hearts that Jesus is Lord but must also confess this with our mouths – we must tell others. After all, Paul says in Philippians 2:11, there will come a day when, “…every tongue [will] acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” When Jesus returns in His full Glory, everyone will see Him. The response from all, without exception, is “He is Lord.” For His followers, this will be the confirmation of what we have been saying all along. For the rest, it will be “Oh, no, these Christians have been correct – Jesus really is Lord.”
These have been words from the heart.
