Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Take Off Your Care

What do Canadians care about the most? According to the Better Life Index created by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, it’s health. The index is based on the responses of more than 80,000 people in 36 countries. Of those respondents, 5,000 were Canadians — 65 per cent of whom were between the ages of 15 and 44, and 57 per cent of whom were male. The top five things Canadians said they care about are health, life satisfaction, education, safety, and work-life balance.

The first thing we usually do when we get home after a busy day at work, at school, shopping, volunteering, is to take off our “outside the house” clothes and get into something more comfortable. Especially at this time of the year here in Canada, we take of our winter coat and boots and put on something comfy. The Bible uses this analogy when speaking about how we ought to unburden ourselves of the cares of this world when we come home to the presence of our Creator. 1 Peter 5:7 says, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” Many of us know this verse well, but I wonder how often we picture ourselves taking off our cares and placing them on Jesus. But that’s what Peter is meaning here. They are a burden we don’t need to carry – He wants to and is certainly better able to carry them than we are. So, whatever your cares, whatever is causing your anxiety, lift them from you and place them on Jesus. He cares for you.
