He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
Isaiah 53:2 NIV
He Grew Up
Growing up in Canada is a unique and diverse experience that is shaped by a wide range of factors, including geography, culture, and family background. Canada is a large and diverse country, and the experience of growing up in different regions and communities can vary greatly. However, there are also many commonalities that are shared by Canadians regardless of where they live. The education system in Canada is also a major aspect of growing up in the country. Canadian schools are known for their high standards and quality of education.

One of the blessings of being at this stage of my life are my grandchildren. With the exception of an older granddaughter, my grandchildren are boys, 11 and younger. And they are all boys – good but rambunctious, active and inquisitive. They ask the best questions, and they want to learn and to grow. I often look at them and wonder what Jesus was like as a boy. We don’t get much information, but there is a prophecy about him in Isaiah 53:2: “He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.” This is a very precious scripture about the childhood and youth of Jesus. He was a normal boy, dealing with the loss of baby teeth and the skinned knees that every boy in every generation deals with. There was nothing special about his looks – he was a normal-looking Jewish boy of his day. Aren’t you glad that the Son of God understood, even in his childhood and youth, what it meant to be like us? He is just as relatable today.
These have been words from the heart.
