God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.

Psalm 46:1 NIV

God Is

Over 80% of Canada is considered uninhabited, a staggering figure that highlights the country’s unique geographical characteristics. Canada’s vast uninhabited areas are primarily due to its challenging geography and climate. The majority of the country is covered by dense forests, rugged mountains, and extensive tundra, which are not conducive to large-scale human settlement or agriculture. These factors, combined with harsh weather conditions, including long, cold winters and short summers, significantly limit the areas suitable for comfortable living.

If I were to ask you how you would complete the phrase “God Is” what would you say? There are almost an infinite number of answers to complete this – there is so much about God that we can’t begin to understand. He is at the same time so describable and indescribable. We can describe His nature, His actions, His redemptive plan. Those who wrote the Psalms did their best to describe God – the hymnbook of the Jewish people is filled with descriptions of God. Psalm 46:1 does so by saying this: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” This is one of the best descriptions of God found in Scripture. He is the One to whom we can run to find refuge when the pressures of life mount. He is the One in whom we find strength to follow Him and His will for our lives. And when troubles come, and they surely will, we find Him to be a constant help in carrying us through. What an amazing God we serve – who comes to our aid whenever we call upon Him. King David had experienced His grace, His protection and His goodness when he went through some incredibly difficult times. So will we.

These have been words from the heart.
