God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.

Ever Present Help

Canada’s engagement with Africa spans many decades, with relationships built on a strong foundation of people-to-people ties, growing commercial relations, historical Canadian leadership on development and humanitarian assistance, and a continued commitment to peace, security and human rights. As African countries and institutions rapidly evolve, so too must Canada’s engagement. At a time of global economic and geo-political volatility and shifting demographics, Canada must seize opportunities to strengthen its economic and national security. This includes diversifying Canadian investments while promoting local benefits in Africa.

There is a reason why first responders are so well respected. Call 911, and within a few minutes, well-qualified, caring professionals show up, rushing into some of the most dangerous situations in order to save lives. No matter where you are or what you are facing, those first responders are an ever-present help. One of the blessings of being a follower of Christ is that your Creator promises to be a spiritual first responder. This is why King David says in Psalm 46:1: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” We all find ourselves in situations where we need the abiding presence of our loving God. During times of loss, grief, sin, or a variety of other situations that can cause anxiety and pain, He is our first responder. He is always just a prayer away. If you are facing a challenge right now, pray. Call the One who is just that close. David faced all sorts of challenges as a result of His sin, the animosity of others, and enemies surrounding Israel. In every case, he found that God was always with him, always responding when called upon. You can trust Him, too.

These have been words from the heart.
