But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.
2 Peter 3:10 NIV
Like a Thief
Gerald Daniel Blanchard, born in 1972, is a Canadian best known for orchestrating complex frauds and heists on three continents. In 1998, Blanchard stole the Star of Empress Sisi, one of 27 diamond-and-pearl hair ornaments worn by Elisabeth of Bavaria, consort of Francis Joseph I, from the Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria. Police thought that, accompanied by his wife and father-in-law posing as tourists, Blanchard disabled the alarm and replaced the jewel with a replica purchased at the souvenir shop.

I speak to a lot of Christians who are focusing on the return of Jesus, a good topic for a believer – His return is, the Bible says, our blessed hope. The assurance of His coming, and the unknown moment for it, drives us to live a life that honours Him, and also drives us to share the good news of Jesus with others so they, too, can receive eternal life and long for His coming. 2 Peter 3:10 says, “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief…the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.” None of us know when Jesus is coming back. When Jesus was here, he said that only the Father knew when that would take place. What we do know is that when He does return everything is going to change. The world as we know it will be no more. All the darkness hidden in the hearts of every sinful human being will be laid bare. We are wise to have our hearts ready for His return, having Jesus as our Redeemer, Saviour, Sin-bearer and friend.
These have been words from the heart.
