Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

Most people enjoy their work. This is particularly so if you are doing what the Lord has gifted you to do, and you are in the sweet spot of your talents and education. Realistically, every one of us finds some parts of our job challenging, and not very enjoyable. We still want to be successful and productive. How do we manage to accomplish the challenging things? The apostle Paul gives some good advice in Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” While we naturally want to please those in leadership, how much better to decide that ultimately it is the Lord Jesus that we want to honour with our efforts. Our redemption is a gift, of course. We can’t work to achieve that. But when we love God, we want everything in our lives to please Him. How much more would we enjoy even the “not fun” parts of our lives and work if we determined that we are ultimately working for the Lord and want to bring Him the honour.
These have been words from the heart.
