For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

Psalm 1:6 NIV

The Way of the Righteous

There is no official national religion, but Christianity has been the dominant faith since the Europeans began to arrive in significant numbers. Currently, however, the number of Canadians who don’t ascribe to any particular religion has risen a great deal in recent generations, which is somewhat due to a generational replacement of values and beliefs. Some Canadians have disaffiliated with their religion as they have aged; for example, the number of people born between 1947 and 1966 unaffiliated with any religion has almost doubled since 1981.

We often think that those who do evil get ahead in our world. While it might seem this way, God doesn’t miss a thing. How many corrupt politicians have we read about lately who have been hauled off to jail. Bashad Al-Assad had to flee Syria, after his family ruled Syria as tyrants for 52 years, having murdered as many as 250,000 of his own countrymen, and imprisoned hundreds of thousands more, in some of the world’s worst prisons. Bernie Madoff died penniless, alone in his jail cell, after bilking his investment clients out of billions of dollars. What a contrast to those who walk faithfully with Jesus. King David wrote this in Psalm 1:6: “For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.” You may not be a world leader or in the top 1% of the world’s business tycoons. But if you are walking with the Lord, empowered by Him to live a life that honours Him, you can count on His presence and His empowerment. He is watching over your life, caring for you in love.
