The name of the Lord is a fortified tower;
the righteous run to it and are safe.
Proverbs 18:10 NIV
A Fortified Tower
Cell towers have been an integral part of the mobile landscape for decades, enabling incredible advancements in how we communicate and access information via compact devices tucked into our pockets. Commercial mobile connectivity traces back to the early 1980s when the first cellular networks were constructed using 1G or 1st generation analog technology. These systems were built exclusively for mobile voice calls. Early cell sites covered exceptionally wide radii, often up to 30 miles per tower site.

There are towers and there are towers. In our day, towers tend to be for communication technology – from those that line our highways to huge ones like Toronto’s CN Tower. Not used as much these days, but were once common in Canada’s north, were towers used to keep an eye out for forest fires. Before that, towers were used to keep an eye out for enemies – and they offered a strong defense against attack. It was that kind of tower that King Solomon speaks about in Proverbs 18:10: “The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” We live in a world that can be dangerous – not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. The Bible speaks to the battle that all who follow Jesus face day by day. When we take a stand for Jesus and for truth, many in our world will not understand. It’s not easy living godly in a sinful world, where people don’t want a righteous God getting in the way of their selfish lifestyle. Let’s never forget that the name of Jesus is a fortified tower, and when the battle is on, when we run to Him, He keeps us safe.
These have been words from the heart.
