But I trust in you, Lord;
I say, “You are my God.”
My times are in your hands;
deliver me from the hands of my enemies,
from those who pursue me.

Psalm 31:14-15 NIV

In His Hands

According to the Canada Guide website, the stereotype of the “polite Canadian” may be cliché, but it does have some basis in reality. Canada is a nation with fairly strong conventions of social etiquette, and properly obeying and understanding these rules is an important way to “fit in” to broader Canadian society. Canadians meeting for the first time usually shake hands to introduce themselves, and may shake hands before departing, as well. Short hugs are becoming more common for closer friends, particularly women.

Have you ever placed yourself fully in someone else’s hands? I remember the first time we went zip gliding. We were in Costa Rica and the zip line crossed the top of the rain forest. They were high up and as we stepped onto the platform to get strapped in for the ride, the worker said “don’t worry about a thing – you’re in good hands. I designed this zip line.” We trusted him, and sure enough we had a wonderful time enjoying the beauty of that part of God’s creation. In a spiritual sense we who follow Jesus Christ have placed our lives in the hands of our Creator. King David writes this in Psalm 31:14-15: “But I trust in you, Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me.” What a powerful thought that our times, our lives, are in God’s hands. So, we have the confidence that no matter what comes our way, God is carrying us along. Understanding this would allow us to enjoy the life abundant and eternal that he offers.

These have been words from the heart.
